Biography
Santiago Savi is an indigenous Mixtec painter. He was born in 1984 in Abasolo Del Valle, an indigenous community in the south of the state of Veracruz with roots in San Juan Mixtepec, Oaxaca. He is an Agricultural Engineer by profession, with a scholarship from the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (2002-2007), with studies in filmmaking at the New York University NYU and a Master's degree in Art from the Instituto Cultural Helénico.
She emigrated from her indigenous community to Mexico City out of necessity for studies and work. She currently works painting in her art studio in Mexico City. In her paintings and murals she likes to capture Mother Earth, the cornfield, flowers, animals, nahuales and textiles. Her art is a way of expressing the Mixtec tradition inherited from her parents and grandparents of the Mixtec people.
He has directed films and painted murals in cities such as New York, Mexico City, Querétaro, Irapuato, Oaxaca and Veracruz. He has participated in various individual and collective exhibitions in Mexico and the United States. His works are found with art collectors in Europe, the United States and Latin America. Recently his paintings were published in the new books of the SEP.
